Job Summary

Manage the Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinic.
Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.
This position involves light work that may exert up to 20 pounds and may consistently require light work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects involving patient care or medical equipment.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions
Educates recipients and recipient's families and potential donors regarding transplantation, expected outcomes, tissue typing, risks, complications and patient responsibilities. Provides emotional support to patients and family members.
Evaluates, interviews and screens potential recipients, transplant candidates and donors using predetermined criteria; schedules lab work and procedures to evaluate potential recipients and donors and compiles reports.
Schedules live donor transplants and assists in transplant procedures during live donor transplants.
Obtains deceased donor information, authorizes final cross match, contacts the recipient, assesses the recipient's health, and coordinates hospital admission.
Prepares patient for discharge by educating patient and family regarding medications, home monitoring, lab tests, clinic visits, daily activities and follow-up.
Reviews patient lab tests, patient monitoring records, and assesses patient problems.
Participates in hospital committees and staff meetings, participates in patient care conferences and continuing education to keep abreast of latest trends in transplantation.
Provides transplant education to nursing staff and provides public education regarding transplantation and organ donation.
Promotes the transplant programs to internal and external customers to maintain and increase patient referrals.
Participates in the development of all department policies, protocols and research projects.
Monitors the electronic submission of all UNOS registration and updates.
Collaborates with the transplant surgeon and transplant physician to ensure appropriate admission, surgery and post surgery care.
May supervise and evaluate department support staff.
Works closely with financial coordinators to provide transplant information, insurance coverage and contractual agreements to third party reimbursement.
Coordinates activities and materials to raise awareness for specific programs and implements strategies for the promotion and expansion of services for specific target groups.

Minimum Qualifications

Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator Certification ( CCTC) within three years of hire.
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
Five years of clinical nursing experience in the specific functional area.
Prior experience in transplant.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
