Position Description:

The Department of Nutrition at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking a skilled and dedicated Research Technician to support basic mechanistic research in Biomedical Nutrition and Public Health. This will be a 12-month staff position. The Research Technician will play a crucial role in assisting the Principal Investigators (PIs) with various research projects, conducting experiments, and ensuring the smooth operation of the research facilities. In addition, they will be responsible for assisting with research/experimental training and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students; maintaining training records; overseeing safety inspections; and ensuring compliance with protocols, policies, and regulations.


Qualifications :

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree (Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field)

· 1 year of prior experience working in a research laboratory setting, preferably in biomedical science research.

· Expertise in working with vertebrate animal models for human health.

· Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and documentation using appropriate software and tools.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

· Knowledge and adherence to laboratory safety, ethical research conduct, scientific integrity and procedures.

· Ability to communicate effectively, including active listening skills plus the ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, administrators and other stakeholders.

· Ability to prioritize and manage a high volume of complex projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.

· Ability to be detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem solving skills.

· Ability to follow complex protocols and SOPs accurately.

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

· Ability to provide excellent customer service with a commitment to exceptional quality.

· Ability to think analytically, quantitatively, creatively and strategically.

· Ability to be an independent thinker with professional skepticism.

· Ability to be a team player who works well collectively and collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals.

· Ability to troubleshoot experimental procedures.

· Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

· Master’s Degree (Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field)

· Familiarity with a wide range of laboratory in vitro, in vivo, and ex vivo techniques and equipment commonly used in biomedical research.
