Job Summary

The Department of Internal Medicine's Division of Nephrology is seeking a highly qualified individual to aid in the management of bone studies. Key responsibilities encompass a wide array of tasks, including processing research samples, conducting experiments in a timely manner, and maintaining laboratory equipment. Ensuring accurate data entry, analyzing experiment results, and coordinating with colleagues on experimental procedures are integral aspects of the role.

Moreover, the Research Analyst will be tasked with maintaining Institutional Review Board ( IRB) approval, overseeing recordkeeping for studies, and facilitating communication with study personnel. Regular attendance at research meetings to discuss findings, coordination of patient scheduling, and receiving biopsy and blood samples for research purposes are also part of the position's duties.

Regulatory responsibilities include preparing annual reports, ensuring compliance with relevant standards (such as CAP and CLIA), and managing regulatory documentation for clinical staff and IRB review. Collaboration with principal investigators (PIs) and research teams across various projects is vital for developing and implementing processes and protocols. Additionally, this individual will assist in protocol data management, including the preparation and presentation of outcomes data for specific protocols.

The role extends to supporting the goals of nephrology research by conducting experiments utilizing genetic and molecular biology techniques, contributing to scientific project development, and drafting scientific papers. Furthermore, the position involves managing the overall operation of federally funded research, which encompasses developing operational manuals and work plans aligned with study objectives, overseeing daily operations, supervising lab staff, and maintaining research databases.

Additionally, responsibilities include coordinating regulatory reviews, preparing reports for sponsors and stakeholders, and organizing research team meetings. Acting as a liaison to advisory council members and stakeholders, as well as preparing manuscripts and presentations of study findings, are integral components of the role. Overall, this position plays a crucial role in advancing nephrology research objectives through meticulous experimentation, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration.

Preferred Education/Experience
  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field preferred; alternatively, Master's degree with 3+ years of research experience will be considered.
  • Expertise in bone studies, genetic/molecular biology, and small animal surgeries highly preferred.
  • Experience managing federally funded research projects and regulatory compliance desirable.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, and proficiency in data analysis and presentation preferred.
  • Track record of scientific publications and manuscript preparation preferred.
  • Proficiency in techniques such as histology, immunochemistry, FTIR, microindentation, and nanoindentation highly preferred.
