Job Description

Siena College seeks a highly motivated, compassionate, experienced and innovative leader with a commitment to its mission, rooted in its Franciscan tradition, as its next Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement (VPDAE). Reporting directly to the College President, the VPDAE will work closely with the other members of the President’s Cabinet and the College’s Board of Trustees and Board of Advisors to support and advance the College’s mission and strategic priorities. The VPDAE will provide leadership in the areas of alumni engagement, foundation and corporate grants, stewardship and donor relations, annual fund, major gifts, planned giving, development marketing and development operations and research, and for implementing and executing an effective comprehensive fundraising and donor relation program, including the successful execution of comprehensive campaigns, that supports Siena’s strategic initiatives.

The Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement will, among other things:

 In partnership with the President and working with the President’s Cabinet, establish annual operating plans with goals, objectives and strategies for fundraising and alumni relations programs;

 Oversee all fundraising activities and work with the President to design strategies to solicit leadership gifts, and develop and execute plans for capital and comprehensive campaigns in support of Siena College;

 Lead the development and alumni engagement teams in all aspects of goal setting and performance, fostering a culture of innovation and success that celebrates those achievements and sets goals for continued success;

 Build, sustain, encourage, and support productive relationships with colleagues in development, alumni engagement, and across the College, ensuring the entire Siena community is working toward College’s common goals:

 Recruit, manage, motivate, train and retain experienced and competent professional development and alumni relations professionals and support staff. Ensure that all staff comply with Siena College policies and standards and provide opportunities for staff to grow personally and professionally. Create an environment where all employees receive evaluative feedback about their performance;

 Develop and effectively manage the department operating budget. Ensure the budget properly reflects the needs of the department and the College and monitor regularly and take corrective action if needed;

 Establish infrastructure organizationally and technically, through data management systems, to realize operational potential and excellence;

 In consultation with the President and other Cabinet members, will provide information, guidance and support to the Board of Trustees and Boards of Advisors; and

 Be responsible for all management reports on developmental efforts for internal tracking and effective donor cultivation and relations.

Annual salary range: $195,000 - $250,000*

*The hiring salary above represents the College’s good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency Law.

 Job Requirements

A Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of relevant experience are required. A proven track record of success as a senior development professional, including in a campaign environment, as well as a knowledge of best practices in all aspects of philanthropy in general is required. Experience in complex non-profit institutions, including in higher education, health care, or other non-profits is preferred. Possesses proven management skills and the demonstrated ability to supervise and lead a dynamic and synergistic department, excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple projects is required, as well as strong organizational and leadership skills, and a high level of initiative, energy and creativity.

A background screening will be required.

The benefit package currently includes a retirement plan contribution equal to 10% of an eligible participant's compensation (as defined under the plan) after meeting the plan's eligibility requirements, and tuition reimbursement and exchange opportunities for eligible employees, spouses, and dependents.
