Assistant University Librarian for Science and Engineering
Princeton University Library (PUL) seeks an innovative professional for an exciting opportunity as the Assistant University Librarian for Science and Engineering (AsstULSE). Reporting to the Director for Data, Research, and Teaching Services, the AsstULSE oversees all aspects of library activities within sciences and engineering, including development of innovative services for Princeton's scientific research community, reference and research consultation services, instruction programs, collections, and facilities management. This position has responsibility for a team of 18 staff, including 5 librarians, and for a large Science and Engineering library complex that includes a Makerspace and a Visualization Lab, and for the future Commons Library, which will include collaboration and presentation spaces and an expert advice hub.
The AsstULSE will develop and maintain strategic partnerships with departments, schools, and centers in science and engineering, enable innovative and agile approaches to services, and partner with other campus units on projects and services that advance research innovation. A member of the management team for the Division of Data, Research, and Teaching Services, the AsstULSE will be a partner in the management of Division and Library-wide initiatives, and be a thought leader in research support for Science and Engineering, participating at a national level on collection, teaching, and research service issues relevant to these disciplines.
PUL is one of the world's leading research libraries. It employs a staff of more than 300 professional and support staff working in 10 library locations and 3 storage facilities. The Library supports a diverse community of 5200 undergraduates, 2700 graduate students, 1200 faculty members, and many visiting scholars. Required Qualifications
- A Master's degree in library/information science OR an advanced degree in a field related to science or engineering
- Minimum of five years combined experience of professional library work in an academic or research library and supervisory experience managing people and strategic prioritization of work
- Experience with strategic planning, campus outreach, and program design with multiple stakeholders
- Experience bearing overall program responsibility for a branch library, center, or initiative
- Broad familiarity with collection development in sciences or engineering
- Experience supporting research using new technologies for discovery and learning
- Excellent interpersonal communication and project management skills
- Commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in staffing, collections, and services
- Ability to manage in a complex organization and to build, lead, and motivate diverse teams
- Ability to provide effective liaison programs among multiple constituencies
