Job Description
This position performs a variety of administrative and communications activities supporting the Barry Art Museum including Marketing, Communication, Events and Development. In terms of marketing, this position is expected to develop and implement strategy, perform exhibition branding support and advertisements in conjunction with Director, Curator. It is responsible for all museum communications. This includes: website updates, writing newsletters, preparing social media, press releases, e-magazine articles, annual reports, prepare exhibition and reception invitations. It contacts local television stations, newspapers, and bloggers with information about the museum. Produce posters, brochures, advertisements etc. In terms of events management, the position implements and manages the facility rental program both external community and internal ODU/ Museum community. It also works alongside the Executive Director to support development and membership including renewal, retention, annual appeal, and donor cultivation events.

Considerable knowledge of communications, marketing, and public relations principles and practices. Considerable knowledge of effective customer service and problem resolution techniques. Considerable knowledge of event advertising and publicity techniques. Some knowledge in fund raising/development, art history and art museums. Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail, able to prioritize, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously, in a in a fast-paced and changing environment. Excellent problem-solving and planning capabilities. Excellent written and oral communication skills to include public speaking to a diverse public. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and present ideas, materials and concepts creatively. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives. Demonstrated ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential materials with a high degree of professionalism. Highly developed ability to foster and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with internal and external contacts including donors and external partners.

Considerable experience in event planning, implementation, and coordination. Some experience writing copy and editing marketing materials or promotional materials, brochures, solicitation letters, catalogs, professional/business newsletters or other publications. Some prior experience providing customer service, fund-raising/development, and/or marketing in a non-profit organization or museum.
Preferred knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, English or another related field, with considerable experience in event planning, non-profit development and/or marketing. Outstanding demonstrated ability to write compelling persuasive communication. Exceptional oral and written skills along with some experience using Adobe Creative Suite Pro, Outlook Calendar, Canva, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Wordpress, Raiser's Edge/Millennium (CRM experience), Eventbrite, Open Scholar, Photoshop, Zoom.us, Google Drive, One Drive, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft office suite, and the confidence to adapt/learn if not familiar with an application.
