The communications and marketing department of McDaniel College is not afraid to take risks, embrace bold concepts and create work that challenges the traditional higher education marketplace. Reporting to the Creative Director, the Videographer/Photographer supports the communications, publications, marketing, branding and special event efforts of the college. The Videographer/Photographer will perform a variety of college video and photo assignments and manage photo and digital assets in the college's digital asset management system. The Videographer/Photographer will have the ability to capture and produce video and photos in a compelling way to tell the McDaniel story. There is nothing "typical" about the work to be completed. With a heavy emphasis on video content, the Videographer/Photographer will be expected to have a truly creative eye and to make original, boundary-pushing work to differentiate the college from our peers.
The department is committed to providing the tools necessary for innovative and high-quality videography and photography. The selected candidate must have a demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and will be able to achieve technical, qualitative and quantitative goals while meeting overall project goals and creative excellence.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide video and photo content to fulfill communications and marketing needs at the discretion of the Creative Director;
- Create high-quality, well-edited videos that appeal to a variety of markets including prospective students, alumni, employees and more;
- Identify persuasive opportunities to incorporate video content across multiple platforms;
- Execute general and special assignments requiring professionalism and technical expertise, including but not limited to: candid coverage of campus activities and special events; editorial photos for publications; architectural photographs; headshots; spot news assignments, research profiles etc.
- Work with McDaniel's design team and other colleagues to provide ideas and alternate solutions, resulting in optimal results for the college and impactful, innovative creative;
- Efficiently schedule all assignments by utilizing time management skills;
- Develop and pitch creative concepts and, once approved, execute from planning to completion;
- Manage the college's YouTube and Vimeo accounts and digital libraries;
- Ensure that videos are captioned to comply with accessibility standards.
- As necessary, help to fulfill requests for images and video of newsworthy campus events and stories to be supplied to external media outlets/organizations on behalf of the college;
- Maintain the digital asset management system for the college, organizing and tagging photos and video content, identifying keywords for searches, and implementing a photo tagging system;
- Continually update our campus image bank/photo library with photos of campus locations, buildings, faculty, staff and students;
- Responsible for batch editing, uploading and tagging photos;
- Assess requests for campus photography and videography and offer assistance in arranging for freelance photographers and videographers as required by workload or specific jobs;
- Recruit, train and support a Video Intern, ensuring high quality content from the student perspective;
- Solicit, collect and maintain all image use permission forms for subject as needed;
- Work closely with the writers, social/digital media, graphic designers, web and marketing teams to develop a video and photography plan to capture the images and video necessary to improve our website, stories, publications, social media, etc.
- Expected to complete a minimum of 4 videos/month.
- Support live stream requests as needed.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a videographer and photographer and used to working in a variety of environments.
- Bachelor's Degree in related field required.
- Experience working in high-level video production and post-production, including working knowledge of Visual Effects, audio engineering and film directing strongly preferred.
- High degree of attention-to-detail and an appreciation for how much small details impact overall creative results.
- Must have demonstrated professional photography and videography skills and experience working with multiple camera lenses, portable lighting kits and audio recording devices.
- High degree of creativity and innovation; bold, modern and playful style and the ability to adapt tone to different projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of photo and video equipment: DSLR camera body, lenses, lighting equipment, expertise in Photoshop, Lightroom, and non-linear video editing software.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of digital assessment management systems.
- Extensive understanding of the Mac operating system and software file structuring.
- Must be able to maintain confidential information.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and complete multiple projects at a high level on time.
- Extensive experience with Adobe Premiere Pro/Final Cut X video editing software.
- FAA Certified Drone Pilot preferred.
- Corporate or educational video/photography experience preferred.
