King County Library System (KCLS), located in Washington State, is seeking a compassionate and engaging Health and Social Services Coordinator with a passion for public service and experience serving individuals most impacted by social determinants of trauma.
This position reports to the Department Manager and works to facilitate engagement with library patrons in need of social service referrals and assistance.
About the Opportunity:
As the Health and Social Services Coordinator at KCLS, you will have a unique opportunity to advance the mission of the library system by developing and overseeing system-wide services that address the needs of communities and individuals most impacted by social determinants of trauma, and promote community and workplace well-being. This position involves equipping staff to address patrons' needs through trauma-informed approaches to service, while also providing access to community health information and connections to social supports. The Health and Social Services Coordinator will build capacity for direct patron service through collaboration with social services providers in community libraries and networking with organizations to develop mutually beneficial partnerships. The Health and Social Services Coordinator represents KCLS and KCLS interests in interactions with area social service agencies, governmental entities, and other relevant organizations.

Develops and facilitates relevant training for KCLS staff that addresses the needs of communities and individuals most impacted by social determinants of trauma, promotes community and workplace well-being, and supports incident response protocols.
In collaboration with other programs/departments, assists in the development and implementation of Critical Incident Response protocol. Conducts post-incident staff and team debrief.
Provides consultation for staff regarding community resources, best practices for working with and centering most impacted populations, and best practices for making appropriate and effective referrals to health and social service providers. In partnership with Human Resources supports employees' self-care/well-being.
Uses data, including county and state health indicators, community demographics, and community and staff input and expertise to identify trends in health, wellness, and social service-related challenges at KCLS and the diverse communities it serves. Identify and develop system-wide services and programs to address these needs.
Identify and provide information about community resources that may benefit patrons and/or KCLS programming strategies.
Collaborate, consult with, and train Librarian and Information Services Managers to develop and/or implement health and social services programming with their communities.
Develop and implement programs for social service providers in community libraries, such as Peer Navigators.
Serve as an internal resource, expert, and advocate for communities that have been marginalized due to systemic inequities, oppression, and other social determinants of trauma.
Supervise staff and/or students providing direct social services to patrons in community libraries and through outreach programming.
Strategize the expansion of social services throughout KCLS, building on the network of resources, drop-in social health services and referrals currently provided throughout the system.
Secondary Duties:
Provide direct services to patrons as needed.
Build collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Build connections between community organizations and community libraries.
May participate on KCLS committees.
Special projects as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
Education and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined is:
- Master's Degree in Mental Health, Social Work, or related field;
- Five or more years of experience providing direct services to communities and individuals that have been marginalized due to systemic inequities, oppression, and other social determinants of trauma;
- Demonstrated experience training and supervising staff, students, and/or volunteers; or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification.
- Counselor or Social Work license preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to community and the values of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Working knowledge of principles of de-escalation and/or mediation methods and training.
