Position Purpose
Reporting to the Chief Finance & Operations Officer ( CFOO) of the Division of Arts & Sciences (A&S) at Dartmouth, the Associate Director will provide local oversight and direct support for a wide range of human resources efforts for all employees of the Division. Broad areas of responsibility include employee relations and engagement, recruiting/hiring plans, onboarding and performance reviews, recognition programs, salary reviews and adjustments, general HR processing, and working closely with departmental staff to facilitate actions in their areas.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 5 or more years of HR management expenence.
- Contemporary knowledge of HR policies, practices, and laws.
- Ability to interact productively and tactfully with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to handle confidential and/or sensitive information and exercise discretion concerning its disposition.
- Initiative, sound judgement, and demonstrated ability to set priorities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural awareness.
- Demonstrated ability to professionally manage highly confidential and/or sensitive information.
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR).
- Familiarity with Dartmouth College's or other higher education institution's HR policies and practices.

Description
General Human Resources
- Provides guidance and interpretation of HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Dartmouth, federal, and state employment laws for all employees of A&S.
- Works closely with the CFOO and other members of the senior leadership team to ensure a consistent and shared understanding of HR policies across the Division.
- In collaboration with the CFOO, organizes informational sessions with all staff.
- Manages the annual staff performance review process, ensures engagement and compliance, and provides guidance and coaching to supervisors and staff as needed.
- Serves as the primary liaison between A&S and the Dartmouth Office of Human Resources.
- Provides general guidance and information on HR policies for all A&S employees.
- Reports on diversity and inclusion metrics.
- Serves as one of the Division's champions for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts across A&S and Dartmouth.

Recruitment and Onboarding
- Provides oversight and counsel to hiring managers and departments throughout the entire recruitment cycle for all exempt and non-exempt staff.
- Assumes primary responsibility for staff recruitment and DORR system.
- Serves on staff search committees as requested.
- Participates in onboarding activities for faculty and staff to deliver relevant information about general Dartmouth HR policies; participates in staff exit interviews/off-boarding activities.

Employee Relations and Staff Development
- Underscores the central principle of treating all members of the Division with fairness, dignity and respect, and provides coaching and support to managers of staff employees to ensure productive interactions regarding performance expectations and constructive feedback, including disciplinary actions when warranted.
- Serves as a consultant to managers, helping them to develop their supervisory and leadership skills.
- Identifies, curates and promotes professional development opportunities for A&S staff.
- With CFOO, assesses and advises supervisors, managers and employees on position reclassifications, equity reviews, and potential area reorganization processes.

- Fosters and demonstrates respectful communication and collaboration within a diverse community.
- Serves as primary point of contact to a wide range of internal and external constituencies regarding HR policies and procedures, and serves as a reference on such for the wider A&S community.
- Participates in planning for potential reorganization of A&S HR activities.
